Fight of Their Life
Here is exactly what was said, “ Someone you know is in the fight of their life. Encourage them to stand firm - on God’s Word and in His promises. It will all be worth it”. That is what I read one day on the YouVersion Bible app. I spent a large amount of time just thinking about the first part, someone you know is the fight of their life. I had this overwhelming feeling come over me. I thought about everything going on in my life and just the things I knew that were going on in other people’s lives. Then I did a double take and started thinking of all the things going on in my life that I hadn’t shared with anyone but my wife. How many other people had even more issues than I was aware of but they haven’t even shared them with anyone yet. What about the people who don’t like to share at all, what are they going through? My thought process quickly changed, it’s not that someone I know is in the fight or their life, it’s probably more accurate to say that almost everyone I know is in the fight of their life. I did an exercise one day in my head of all the things that have happened in my life since about 2018. I’m not sure what amazed me more, the amount of things that I have struggled with, or the ways that God has been with me through all of it. When I have those types of conversations in my head, I have two main thoughts. First, I don’t thank God enough for everything he has done for me. I think of Isaiah 41:13,
13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the LORD your God.
And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you
All of those situations I can think of, God was holding on to me, telling me not to be afraid. At the time it felt overwhelming, a few years later I can barely remember any details. My second thought is this: What do people do who don’t believe in God? If I felt overwhelmed and I was believing in God, how do they get through a typical day? I’m sure I’ve talked about this multiple times, but I’ve really tried to focus on reading the bible all the way through every single year. If you have never done it, do it! It may look impossible, but broken down in ten minutes a day it’s very possible, especially if you have the YouVersion bible app read it to you as you follow along! This is what I have learned after reading the bible multiple times now, every single answer is in there. I caught myself again today talking about what a mess this world is in. For some reason today after saying it, I found myself thinking about how every single generation for hundreds of years has been saying the same thing. We are so quick to tell the newest generation how horrible they are. We forget that years ago that was us, we were the generation that was so horrible surely it would bring Jesus back at any moment. I still believe that the world is a mess, but I also believe that Jesus is the answer. We have to find a way to get more people to truly know Jesus. So many people are fighting something right now. For some it’s a health fight, for others it could be a relationship or an addiction. Some people are suffering through a loss right now. We have so many fights going on right now, there is no way I could list all of them. Talking about all of this makes me remember two things. First, we have to remember that the devil is responsible for these fights. His only goal is to find a way to keep as many people out of heaven as possible. One of the easiest ways is to keep us fighting, it wears us down and makes us even more vulnerable. Second, none of this exists in heaven. No pain, no suffering, no fighting. This week, can we just spend some time in prayer thinking about those people who might be in the middle of the fight of their life. Spend some time praying for family, friends and co-workers. Spend some time in the bible looking for as many answers as possible. What I have found to be the most exciting thing about reading my bible every day is that the more I read it, the more answers and help I find.
